What is the principle of color changing cycling glasses?
Color changing glasses change the color of the lens according to the intensity of external light, so as to protect the eyes from strong light. Therefore, many friends choose to wear color changing glasses when riding. In fact, the working principle of color changing glasses is very simple:
1. Photochromic materials are added to the glass raw materials during the manufacture of color changing glasses, and the lenses contain silver halide microcrystals. When activated light such as ultraviolet or short wavelength visible light is irradiated, reaction occurs: colorless silver halide is decomposed into opaque silver atoms and transparent halogen atoms. Silver atoms absorb light to reduce the transmittance of the lens, so the color of the glasses changes.
2. Since the halogen in the color changing lens will not be lost, a reversible reaction can occur. After the activation light disappears, the halogen combines to restore the lens to its original transparent, colorless or light tone state.
Is riding color changing glasses harmful to your eyes?
The transmittance of the color changing cycling glasses is relatively low. Although they can absorb most of the ultraviolet rays, infrared rays and various harmful glare, the transmittance of the lenses is relatively poor due to the chemical composition of silver halide on the lenses. If they are used for a long time, they may cause visual fatigue and are not suitable for long-term cycling.
In addition, it should be noted that there are some inferior color changing cycling glasses with uneven color change, either with slow color change and fast color change, or with fast color change and slow color change, and some even do not change color at all. This kind of cycling glasses can not provide effective eye protection after wearing for a long time. It is necessary to pay attention to buying two pieces of color changing cycling glasses with the same color and no difference.
